Gompa Care Team Member

Hayagriva Buddhist Centre has an opportunity for a volunteer to provide service to the centre, as part of a small team.  We treat gompa care as a Dharma practice, setting our motivation at the start and dedicating our merit at the end.  You don’t need any experience to be a gompa carer. Training, ongoing support, and supplies provided (BYO white face mask).

Gompa care happens each week and takes around 2-3 hours.  Climbing and heavy lifting are kept to a minimum, but vacuuming is required.  Day of the week and time of day are open to discussion as flexibility is encouraged.

Please contact spc@hayagriva.org.au  for more information.

Puja Setup Team Member.

Hayagriva Buddhist Centre has opportunities for volunteers to provide service to the centre, as part of a small team to support the celebration of Pujas.  This service is also a practice, when you set a motivation beforehand and dedicate the merit earned afterwards.  Training and ongoing support are provided.

Pujas are ritual ceremonies celebrated according to the Tibetan lunar calendar, so some flexibility around availability is helpful.  If there is one regular Puja that you feel a connection with, you could choose to specialise in that.

Guru Pujas happen twice a month (occasionally three times); Tara Pujas once a month; Medicine Buddha Pujas once a month; Holy Days are four times a year.  Each year Hayagriva Buddhist Centre also celebrates Lama Yeshe Day / Losar, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday, Kyabje Lama Zopa’s birthday, and Lama Tsongkhapa Day.

The aim is to ensure that the gompa is an inspiring, welcoming place for Pujas.  The duties involve shopping, setting out offerings on the altar, greeting people, etc., then packing up after the puja.  These duties are often done in a team environment.  There is a monthly roster, which considers each team member’s current availability.
