Sangha Day / First Turning of the Wheel – 6 August 2016

BlessingsSaturday 6 August – Sangha Day / First Turning of the Wheel

International Sangha Day commemorates Buddha’s first teaching, the First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma.

Also known as Chokhor Duchen, this Saturday is one of the four most holy days of the year, the karmic effect of positive action are multiplied 100 million times!! On this day, Tibetan Buddhists make pilgrimages to holy places, offering incense and hanging prayer flags.

Venerable Robina Courtin has been described as many things….
Dynamic, witty, powerful, direct, inspiring, motivational and totally dedicated, but above all she has a big heart – motivated by unwavering compassion for all living beings..

Robina Courtin, an Australian-born Buddhist nun with a powerhouse personality, believes she has the key to freedom for some of the toughest criminals in the land. No bars are worse than the prison of one’s own mind, she argues. Drawing on Buddhist teachings she founded the Liberation Prison Project to help transform prisoners’ lives so they can cope with incarceration and deal with the fundamental reasons they turned to crime.

Ven. Robina will visit a total 50 Buddhist Centres in 11 countries between December 2015 and December 2016 and Albany is one of them! We are delighted that Ven. Robina has accepted our invitation to visit Albany from July 1-3, 2016. For further information on the July visit, please refer to the contact details below.

In his inspired first documentary, Courtin-Wilson provides an intimate portrait of a unique individual whose own search for inner peace helps guide others to transcend their arduous circumstances.
